A set is a plan, not a room.
Set design is the work that happens before a single flat gets built: deciding what the environment is, how the camera moves through it, and what the audience believes about the people who live there.
Most independent productions lose money at exactly this point. A crew shows up to a space, starts solving the room on the day, and burns hours of an expensive shooting schedule making decisions that could have been made on paper for a fraction of the cost.
Set design at Northside Studios is about removing that improvisation. We work out the footprint, the wall layout, the sightlines, where practical lights live and which surfaces the camera will actually see. By the time construction starts, the build has a purpose and a budget.

A set that photographs well from one angle and falls apart from the reverse is a false economy. We plan the environment against your intended coverage: wide establishing frames, the two-shot, the tight singles, and any move you want to make. Walls that need to fly get designed to fly. Corners the camera never sees do not get built to the same level, and that money goes into what's on screen.

We start with the script pages, the shot list or simply the idea. What has to happen in the space, and what does the camera need to see?

We agree on period, class, mood and palette so the environment reads as a real place instead of a generic room.

The design is resolved into something buildable in our warehouse at your budget, with clear notes for construction.

Design goes straight into our own build team, so nothing is lost between the drawing and the finished set.

We are not a design studio that hands you drawings and wishes you luck. The same team that designs your set builds it and stands it up in our Fort Worth warehouse.
